I really do not do well with these types of "meditation". My mind wanders bad enough the crashing waves just make it worse. As I listened to this the first time, when you were told to think of someone close to you, my husband was lying on the couch suffering from kidney stones, so it was easy for me to try to take away his pain and suffering and replace it with health and wellness.
Mental workouts are important to keep your mind sharp and active. My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease earlier this year and since his diagnosis I can see a decline in him mentally. He retired (for a second time) almost 2 years ago, and since that time he does very little and since his diagnosis it is even less. The problem is he 83 years old and can be very stubborn and unwilling to try new things.
I agree with you, Kathy. While I practice and enjoy meditation, the Loving Kindness meditation wasn't for me. While I understand that the instructions are intended as guidance, I find them very distracting. On some level it's almost stressful because I find myself working harder to stay focused.
