Comparing the two exercises I would have to say they are both frustrating. I had better luck with the loving kindness exercise though. I do better listening to music on Pandora, or the radio when I need to "think". I do not like writing assignments because it takes me along time to figure out how to sort out my thoughts and what it is I want to say. I will listen to music to gather my thoughts, sometimes I will play games on Facebook or other sites, it gives me a chance to clear my mind.
I am a strong believer in mind over matter. If you constantly tell yourself you cannot do something you will not be able to do it. If you tell yourself you can do it chances are you will be able to accomplish the task.
Kathy, I am the same way when it comes to writing assignments. A research paper, I don't have as many problems with, but anything else, even a simple discussion board post, my mind seems to go blank. Well, blank as far as thinking about the assignment that is. I actually tend to think about everything else but the assignment. I think this is where this exercise can help the most. If I am able to clear my mind completely, and think of only my breath, when I am done, I can focus on school work, as mind has been cleared of all the clutter.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteLOL- I'm glad I'm not the only one who is not exactly getting the hang of these meditation assignments...I feel so pressured to hurry up and relax to finish the assignment! Crazy, right?? lol. Actually, writing works well for me. I am a compulsive list maker- has to be on paper, putting it into my iphone does not work for me- and it allows me to plan out my 'to do' list, see it all in one shot, and the organization of it all is very calming for me. I'm sure it has to do with anxiety, or OCD. (lol). Just like people are different types of learners, it seems that they are also different types of 'meditators'.
